Bleaching (Tooth Whitening)

One of the most commonly requested procedures today, also referred to as bleaching, tooth whitening is simple, effective and with few side effects producing a brighter smile.

There are a number of types of tooth whitening procedures. These are,

Non-Vital Bleaching
Used when a single tooth discolors following a root canal procedure, effectively whitening the grey effect of a root filling.

At-Home Bleaching
Special plastic foam-lined trays are made in the laboratory accurately fitting your own teeth. A Carbamide Peroxide bleaching gel is issued for self at-home application at a frequency of one hour per day, or overnight, for 14 days, or twice the frequency over 7 days.

In-Office Power Bleach
Using trays similar to those for At-home bleaching, a specialized bleaching solution is applied in the surgery for 30-45 minutes. This procedure requires dentist supervision. Following only 2 applications, the results are comparable to laser bleaching. Included in the fee for this procedure is an At-home Bleaching kit. The most commonly used system in our clinic with the most value.

Laser, or arc-light, bleaching
This procedure can produce dramatic instant results by using highly intensified light to activate the bleaching process. The procedure takes approximately 30-45 minutes in-office.

The New age light activated tooth whitening system.

Faster, More comfortable, More effective ! Less sensitivity and incomparable.

8-10 shade difference in 30 - 40 minutes.

Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are thin laminates of porcelain which are bonded to the tooth surface. Probably the most esthetic means for enhancing a smile, veneers are a popular treatment for a variety of smile problems.

Porcelain veneers are the ultimate restoration for spaces, chips, fractures, rotated or misaligned teeth, unshapely or discoloured teeth; allowing alteration of tooth position, shape, size and color. The end result …a dramatic cosmetic makeover.

Although the procedure is somewhat similar to crowns this treatment requires a minimal amount of tooth reduction and is, therefore, a relatively conservative technique.

Key Benefits
  • Dramatic, Yet Natural Cosmetic Enhancement
  • Increased Self Esteem
  • Minimal Tooth Preparation
  • Permanent & Durable

The procedure requires two appointments. At the first appointment the face/s of the tooth, or teeth, is prepared by minimal reduction of 0.5 to 0.75 mm in order to make room for the porcelain laminate. An impression (or, mould) is then taken of the prepared tooth for fabrication at a laboratory, and a plastic temporary veneer fitted, where possible, for the interim period. Laboratory fabrication takes approximately 2 week. At the subsequent visit, the temporary veneer/s is removed and the final veneer/s is permanently bonded into place.

Bonding

Tooth Bonding is a relatively low cost, single-visit procedure whereby a layer of composite is 'bonded' to the surface of the tooth.

Bonding is most effective when used to repair minor chips. It can also be used in a veneering procedure conceptually similar to Porcelain Veneers, where instead, a composite material is bonded to the tooth surface to correct a variety of aesthetic problems from color to shape. These 'Composite Veneers' are not as colour-stable and are disadvantaged by lack of durability. They are more likely to chip and stain, and they do-not glow in fluorescent light.

Due to their inherent deterioration over time, our cosmetic dentists usually use Composite Veneers as a temporary and diagnostic measure to demonstrate to the patient what can be achieved with Porcelain Veneers.
